Alcohol Percents

United States Coast Guard recreational boating statistics for 2008 document alcohol use as being the leading contributing factor seen in fatal boating accidents. Alcohol use was linked to 276 boating accidents in 2008 that lead to 124 deaths and 246 serious injuries.

Alcohol use on the water presents more dangers to a boat operator than the driver of a car. The marine environment with its bright sunlight, water motion, engine vibrations and blowing wind accelerates fatigue and the effects on alcohol on boaters.
